Applications now accepted for 2019-2020 cohort thanks to grant from US Bank Foundation

The Harriet Beecher Stowe House is pleased to announce an expansion of the Youth Docent Corps for the 2019-2020 academic year.  The program was piloted by 8th grade Spencer Center student, Magnus Knudsen.  His vision brought together elements of historical exploration, community service, and acquisition of communication and professional skills.  Magnus will continue to serve as a tour guide and a mentor in the expanded program.

Thanks to a grant from the US Bank Foundation, a diverse, limited group of local students in grades 8-12 will be selected to further develop leadership skills while learning about the importance of social justice throughout history and the need for ongoing community involvement.

Joining the Harriet Beecher Stowe Youth Docent Corps will allow students to take their knowledge and experiences and share them with the community.  They will grow as a writers, speakers, and teammates--skills necessary to serve in a variety of roles with other museums, historic sites, or organizations.  This could be just the first step to a life of community service as a hobby or a career.

Located in the historic neighborhood of Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, OH, the Harriet Beecher Stowe House hosts educational tours, lectures, and readings. We celebrate the life, family, and legacy of author and activist Harriet Beecher Stowe.  Harriet is primarily known for her book, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and its contributions to the Civil War.  The later history of the House highlights its importance in the civil rights discussions of the 20th century.

Applications are due June 30, 2019. Program kick-off is August 24, 2019. For more information and to apply, visit www.stowehousecincy.org/youth-docent-corps.
